As an old year draws to a close and the new year begins, its a time to reflect on God's goodness throughout the year, with a heart of thanksgiving. Using the themes of Worship, Healing, Friendship and Joy , I'm thankful for... -- Lay Kuan's Purpleclick: Blessed 2010 | blog
Calyn Xu
Without much realization, I'm on staff with Campus Crusade for six years. And to be surprise, I'm considered one of the senior staff in Campus Ministry! Praying for my future isn't easy and it kept bringing me back to the time where God called me personally to full‐time ministry when I was 19. -- Calyn Xu's Blessed Christmas (PDF, 0.7MB)
Zhou Siming
Working as a full-time staff on campus has not been easy. With staff training, assignments and tests, transiting from a student to a Christian worker has been tough. Ironically, the biggest challenge Ive encountered is to be godly. -- Zhou Siming's In pursuit of Godliness (PDF, 1.5MB)
Soh XiaoJun
I believe that it is because of your prayers for me that the peace of God dwelt in my heart and His presence was with me too. I really thank you for your prayers and encouragements! I held onto this passage that someone encouraged me with, saying, "When I came to you, brothers, I did not come with eloquence or superior wisdom as I proclaimed to you the testimony about God. ..." -- Soh XiaoJun's First Teaching ever! (PDF, 0.9MB)
Eileen Paton
Many times I would feel inadequate, and unable to be of help to the ministry. Sometimes I wondered if I'm an asset or a weight pulling down the aspects of ministry I'm in charge of. It doesn't help when there were times I felt like giving up and quiting it all and run away and drop everything. -- Eileen Paton's Changed Instead (PDF, 1.1MB) | blog
Johnson & Yvonne
God has spoken to us on a few occasions to share about the love of Christ to my dad this year, but I have not found the courage to do that as I fear anger & rejection from dad. Please pray for Yvonne & I as we have decided to show the DVD "The Deal" to my dad who is a non-believer. Although I still have the fear this time, but I just want to trust God to soften my dads heart & to leave whatever result to Him. -- Johnson & Yvonne's A season of growth, waiting & transition (PDF, 1.2MB) | blog

This year alone I have seen two medical specialist on two different occasions. ... I thank God for this experience that I have been through. Although my physical body is decaying, but God is good. He watches over me. -- Peter Lee's From Peter to You (PDF, 25kB)
Fong Li Ling
I am very much the kind of person that is able to live alone. I can eat alone, watch movies alone, work alone, run alone, but it is this year that my heart has begun to realize how company, community and affection are such integral parts of my personhood. And that God intends for us to live in relation to one another to learn to love and grow. -- Fong Liling's Cheers and Tears (PDF, 848kB) | blog
Lindy Teo
God had made me see that all I've been doing, even the good things amounts to nothing, if I am not doing it in God's strength. Recently, after recognizing this, I'm intentionally slowing down (even in reading!) so that I'll be able to pause and think, to pray and ask God for discernment for what i have seen and heard. I'm still in the midst of this 'frantic' period, so do pray for me! :) -- Lindy Teo's Arts Beat & Other News... (PDF, 594kB)

David Mak
Once again I was gently brought face-to-face with how far I've left Home. Once again I'm lovingly brought face-to-face with my brokenness. A broken life that exists only because of GRACE. A wreck that needs the overhaul by FORGIVENESS. A tired soul sorely in need to find rest in DEPENDANCE. But He's all along been there.... And that's the beauty of all of our stories with Him isnt it?... -- David Mak's when His truth shines through... (PDF, 1.2MB) | blog

Fifteenth December marks my one-year return from Australia. I thank God for His sustaining grace in my transition back to Singapore. Many of you came around to provide support when I was feeling lost, confused and frustrated. I was confronted by the reverse culture shock in the initial months, after which I slowly moved into the getting myself familiarized with the various systems and knowing how things are done mode. Finally I feel that I have settled down and I am now living in Singapore! -- Wai Ling's countless blessings (PDF, 519kB)
QuarterNote, Oct/Dec 2009
One thing I MUST single out, for praise, is the dedication and love shown to the Lord (and us) by our over 40 active volunteers and ministry partners! These are our unsung heroes who have given sacrificially, braved weather, yanked themselves out of bed at unearthly hours, and even used up their annual leave, just so they could help connect people to Jesus. We love & cherish you, our faithful friends! We couldn't have had the year we've had apart from you guys! -- ForeRunner's On the (music) Scene & Heard, QuarterNote Oct-Dec 2009 (PDF, 1.4MB) | Homepage
Tina Lee
We are in the midst of producing a documentary film on the story of Ariel - the daughter of one of the SCCC staff. She went through liver transplant operation and has been blessed by the Lord. My team felt that this is a powerful testimony and prayed and decided to share, through a film, on how God has brought the family through the many ups and downs during this particular curve in their lives. -- Tina Lee's Every Beat of My Heart (PDF, 400kB)
Dorothea Chow
Our team will be going to Tokyo from 4-12 Dec. For some of us, it will be our first time seeing the mission field there. We are all quite excited to go!! You can read all about what we hope and plan to do while we are there on the back of this page. We will also be spending time with our dear Daniel, to encourage him as he continues to trust God in his ministry. -- Dorothea Chow's First stop... Japan! (PDF, 882kB) | blog
Yeo Li Juan
Coming back evoked pleasant memories of all sorts. Early in the morning as I nestle myself into my favorite corner (Batchgirls, you know the place) for daily dosage of quiet time with God, I always made sure I had ample time to drink in the serenity and dark calm of the house before people invade the living space. Six months have done little to dilute a delightful past shared with my batchmates in march. -- Yeo Li Juan's October's On-Growings (PDF, 2.7MB)
Eeleen Lin
After all, the anointing and gifts of God are never for ourselves. It felt significant that the first time we should minister together, would be graced with the city skyline behind us. What a privilege to sing, share our songs with the public and speak life into the atmosphere. -- Eeleen Lin's All in a day's work (PDF, 2.2MB)

Mah Yeow Beng & Elaine
We want to express our heartfelt thanks to you for your support in our lives and ministry through your friendship, prayers and giving. Thank you for your love for and trust in us that has enabled us to join God in His work at various fronts. The following are three interesting comparisons of changes in our lives and ministry since we last served in Cambodia. -- Yeow Beng & Elaine's With gratefulness, the Mahs (PDF, 628kB)
Ronald & Fay
We will be going for a church mission trip to Cambodia. There are 8 of us in the team. We will be partnering with an orphanage and we will also go to a village to reach out to the villagers (children, youth and families) and equip the local church leaders. This is the 1st time for both of us going for a mission trip together. Please pray for us, the team, the ministry work... -- Ronald & Fay's The help of His presence (PDF, 516kB) | blog
Patrick & Jacqueline Ng
...the questions we find ourselves asking quite a lot recently have been: Are we really making an impact in what we are doing now? What does the Lord have in store for us in the next 5-10 years? ... till a good friend in the US reminded me that God made some of us cue balls (the white ball in a pool game) and the cue ball exists solely to put others in the pocket. What a freeing revelation! Knowing that frees me from the pressure to be someone I'm not, or lead in a way I'm just not wired to. -- Patrick & Jacqueline Ng's Musings on the Journey (PDF, 517kB) | blog
Mark & Susan Suredhran
...we are thankful to God for the privilege of working with a great missionary team comprising Aussies, Americans and Singaporeans. As a team we are responsible in reaching Monash University students. We fought through many turbulent times together and God has forged a deep fellowship that has been etched into our hearts. -- Mark & Susan Suredhran's Cheers Australia! Hello Singapore! (PDF, 310kB)

Teaching seminary students at EAST brings with it another kind of satisfaction. Here we mentor people who have already made that commitment to serve Christ. Christine Tan
After a long six years of ministry, I will be leaving Campus Crusade as a staff in Jan 2010. There are so many fond memories in learning, growing and serving God in this staff family. I really thank God for showing me His faithfulness and providence over these six years. God never failed to enable and provide! -- Christine Tan's For Christ's love compels me... (PDF, 0.7MB)
Snooze the band
To "snooze" is handphone jargon for that transient phase of life that we go through between "sleeping" and "waking", much like the transition of a youth to an adult. But whether we are children, youths, young adults or parents, our life stories are very much in the process of being written, and the decisions we make now do impact the rest of our lives. In that sense, we are all in transition, hence the name Snooze. -- Snooze goes to India (PDF, 2MB) | blog | twitter

Soh XiaoJun
...in His amazing ways, God sent people with really sacrificial hearts to be in this comm and made things a lot easier! Despite my inadequacies, God has taught me that He is the ultimate leader. He used the members to teach me how to lead better, and these are the people who were willing to sacrifice their weekend till past midnight to make bookmarks for meta just to bless and encourage the crusade students. -- Soh XiaoJun's Where am I (PDF, 0.8MB)
Tina Lee
Is it difficult for you to love people at times, especially when you are just too caught up with your own life issues, or when face the unloveable people? It is to me. God commanded us to love Him with all our heart, and love others as we love ourselves. I read this passage in 1 Corinthians. It struck me to know that I am nothing if I have not love. Sometimes, I do struggle loving people. And it discomforts me to see the unloving part of me, knowing that I am called to spread God's love to others. -- Tina Lee's take time to reflect (PDF, 0.7MB)
Raymond Yee
This question "What does it means to love someone?" popped out as I was reading a book. When I thought about it, one word came to mind: hurt! So if loving someone would one way or another result in hurt, does it mean that you do not love others? Is there a right way to love someone so that you will not get hurt? -- Raymond Yee's Ray's Updates... Oct 2009 (PDF, 1MB)

Journeying with the pre-believers can be a bittersweet experience. I always see an instant change in the countenance of a new convert ... from anxiety, struggle, skepticism or fear to relief, peace and joy. And when I get a chance to talk with these new believers weeks later I will be able to hear heartwarming testimonies of lives that are changed inwardly. -- Wai Ling's I Corinthians 2:4,5 (PDF, 323kB)
Haiks & Ruth
...that this God I serve has remained faithful to me even when I had shamelessly and audaciously rebelled against His love. And this was the kind of love He was asking of me; it was what I had covenanted to do, even if I were to face such deep pain and sorrow. Subsequently sharing this with Haiks has allowed us to cement our promise with a mutual understanding of our loyalty towards each other. -- Haiks & Ruth's Becoming One (PDF, 2.3MB)
Adam Lee
I sometimes do question the purpose of support raising, with all its hassle of writing newsletters, calling people up and making appointments. But for the past 2 months, I saw how God raised up a team of not just financial and prayer supports, but a family of believers that has made a stand to walk with me in this journey to serve God full time. -- Adam Lee's Family (PDF, 1.1MB)

Pray that we will be able to finish this last lap well. Connie is beginning to cry just praying for the ministry and all our disciples. The month of October is going to be really hard for us as we finish off training this mighty team and preparing them for next year. Pray that the JOY of the Lord is our strength. -- Alex & Connie's Building a Mighty Team (PDF, 0.5MB)
Patrick & Estella
Patrick was sitting next to the church pastor & it was so heartwarming when the pastor expressed her appreciation for how she believe that Nozomu's involvement with Campus Crusade during his college days has helped set his foundation of faith & service in the church. It was as if God was using that moment to affirm us of our labor is not in vain. -- Patrick & Estella's Building beyond the Campus Day | Homepage

Six months ago, I was in Tokyo, seeing the house church ministry for the very first time. Six months ago, I had plans to (possibly) leave Campus Crusade at the end of the year, and had neatly mapped out the next two years (at least!) of my life. Six months ago, I was still 27. Flash forward to the present. The plans I made six months ago? -- Dorothea Chow's FlashForward (PDF, 187kB) | blog
Amos & Karen
...we have been greatly challenged in our long-held 'true but incomplete' assumptions about the Kingdom of God. Our understanding of the Great Commission has been enlarged from personal salvation and discipleship to include societal/city transformation. And our lives have been deeply enriched as we fellowshipped with those who care deeply about the discipling of nations for Christ. -- Amos & Karen's Updates Apr-Sept 2009 (PDF, 114kB)
Janice Chuang
As I was preparing this course, I asked the Lord for His input as to how I could help to grow the students in the practical aspect of evangelism and discipleship. The Lord impressed my heart to do field ministry with the students so that there would be a mutual observation, evaluation and learning. In the course of ten weeks, we had the privilege to witness to more than thirteen people and five accepted Jesus into their lives! -- Janice Chuang's Sowing & Reaping (PDF, 174kB)

In the past months, I have been praying and also challenging the existing e-mentors to pray and look out for God's answer of someone they know who might be interested in e-mentoring. I wanted to do things my way. The focus is all about meIn this passage it is otherwise. It's for the glory of the master potter who is working on this clay. Even when the clay is spoiled in His hands, He is still working on it, breaking, molding, shaping and even putting it into the fiery furnace. -- Ronald Lau's In The Potter's Hands (PDF, 490kB)

I looked around, and saw a blind man sitting at the side of the walkway busking. At that moment, i thought: this blind man, although physically blind, was able to see Jesus shining in glory, and therefore plays this song as a response from his heart. What about us who can physically see? What about ME? Am I seeing my Jesus in glory? -- Lindy Teo's Excerpts from Lindy's Ministry #9 (PDF, 328kB) & NUS Arts ministry updates (Aug '09) (PDF, 0.5MB)

This trip had pushed me a step further because I was required to translate all my class notes, and lecture in Chinese. However, my visit to the Dead Sea Scrolls Exhibition helped me see the dedication of many heroes who gave their lives to the translation of the Bible. For God's Word to be truly unchained, it must be heard by people in their mother tongue, their hearts' language. -- Jeremy & Jane's God's Word is not chained (PDF, 685kB)

...in some warped perspective of mine, God is very demanding, even selfish! Because He seems to allow things that are horrible, like natural disasters, disease and death, simply that His glory might be shown. The analogy of the Potter and the clay (Jeremiah 18:1-6) would make me think of myself as a helpless lump of clay, at the mercy of the Potters artistic inclinations -- Dorothea Chow's For His Glory (PDF, 544kB) | blog

Crash! A hundred broken pieces of clay, and water splattered all over the floor, spoke vividly of the fragility of life, and the finality of death.. Ecclesiastes 12:6 (NASV) tells us that there comes a day for every man when the pitcher by the well will be shattered -- and he shall face his Creator. And before that day arrives, whatever our hand finds to do, let us do it with all our might (Eccl 9:10). -- Roland & Ying Kheng's five funerals (PDF, 0.8MB)

...I had to realign my heart to worship. However, I felt very unworthy and unqualified, so I asked Jesus if I could borrow His righteousness. He reminded me that He had already given His to me to qualify me to enter His presence to serve Him. 2Cor. 3:5, By ourselves we are not qualified in any way to claim that we can do anything. Rather, God makes us qualified. -- Mark & Susan's News from the Suredhrans (PDF, 188kB)

It has been a joy seeing the ministry of Clayton being student run and our desire to see Caulfield mature and student run before we leave on 28 November. Seeing our prayers answered and seeing God raising up an army of God that is His own chosen disciples helped place our confidence in our wonderful Counsellor! Not by might, nor by power but by My Spirit, so says the Lord! -- Alex & Connie's Being Chosen (PDF, 122kB)
Alex & Connie
God gave two clear goals for living that apply to us as well: Serve God faithfully and live a blameless life. Both of these goals have a lot to do with our motives. God knows that we are sinners (the Bible points out several of Abram's sins)... Teach me your ways, O Lord, that I may live according to your truth! Grant me purity of heart, that I may honor you (Psalms 86:11) -- Alex & Connie's Goals for living... (PDF, 319kB)

Having been blessed tremendously by mentors who have discipled me, I am thankful for a chance to disciple others. My guys will soon, in a matter of months, graduate to serve the nation in National Service. My own time in NS was a trying one which tested my faith. In the end, God led me out of that period in my life with a greater understanding of who He is. I pray that would be true for each of them. -- Andrew Yu's Thru the Lens (PDF, 0.5MB) | wideangle.sg

It was thus with strong heartfelt emotions as I handed over the leadership in June 2009 to my colleague Rudy. No, there was no parade this time, no oath taking, no flag escort... but I knew that God was looking at both of us, concerned with what we were going through in our hearts as we walked through the details of hand-over. -- Derek Chiang's Tough but Good... It is tough to try to sum up everything that I've learnt but in my reflection 2 words came to my mind RETREAT and ADVANCE. I came to EAST with the initial purpose to retreat and rest in the Lord so that I can advance forward in my future ministry. In the process, God showed me that truly I need to retreat, but not from ministry and people but to retreat from myself. That is as I become less, God can then advance forward and reveal more of Himself to me. -- Chin Leng & Lisa's Lessons in Leadership (PDF, 357kB)

Eileen and I were actually quite disappointed, and wondered if we have 'scared' her off. We desire to express our thanks through praise! Thankfulness goes beyond gratitude for something; it also acknowledges the One from whom our blessings come. The accumulation of my knowledge of God has to have an outflow. In the past, I was consumed with the acquisition of Logos (Knowledge), that I neglected the building and growing of my Ethos (Character). In a recent theology class I attended, I have come to understand Logos is useless unless it is put into practice, therein growing Ethos, which is ultimately the most important quality in leadership. I need to become a doer of God's Word. -- Yeo Lijuan's May-hem in June

You can pray for us according to the verse in 1 Tim 4:12: "Don't let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set on example for the believers in speech, in life, in love, in faith and in purity" -- Maggie Tan's Updates from me!

I share this with you with immense gratitude for the prayers you've uttered on our behalf. I know this victory could not have been possible without your intercession. I'm excited too, to have my dad walk me down the aisle, and truly being happy when he gives me away in marriage. -- Clydia Mak's God, I need You...

Thank God that they are alive and in Gods care and protection. God is their shepherd, tower of strength, comfort in times of need, etc... God knows the true state of our heart. We didn't. We realized that our hearts had been concerned about what the future will be like for our children if we say yes to God... -- Alex & Connie's True state of your HEART

I came across 2 corinthians 4:5, "for we do not preach ourselves , but Jesus Christ as Lord, and ourselves as your servants for Jesus' sake." I was humbled by God's grace that it is no longer what I do but what God has done in my life. -- Tina Lee's A Step Further

"Mommy, Mommy..." the child called out softly again. "Here I am honey, come over here to Mommy," replied her mum from a distance. What amazed me was how her mum could single out her child's soft calling from among the voices of other children and noises in the shop? That's when the Lord spoke to me, "Ray, in the midst of your everyday living, I am watching over you. So be assured that I hear you when you call..." -- Ray's Updates... June 2009

Though these past months of constant events planning, it has sometimes caused me to miss the whole point of service. There were times when I needed to be still, to draw strength, just resting in His presence; acknowledging and drawing into His love. -- Phyllis Xie's The Blessedness of Having Him

As a family, we took the risk to leave Benjamin and Daniella with families and friends back in Singapore when we left for Melbourne a year ago. We miss them greatly and were tempted many times to take a flight back for a visit when we hear that they are unwell or going through difficult decisions. We praise God that He has a purpose and we saw how they became independently dependant on God. -- Alex & Connie Ng's Stoplight faith

It has always been upon my heart that there will be a breakthrough in Alyssa's prayer life as I disciple her. When I saw what she wrote, I was touched by her child-like prayers. Simple prayers, yet powerful. As I encouraged her to give thanks for the day, I sensed Alyssa's tone and confidence in God while she prayed this time, full of joy that God hears her prayers... -- Selina Wong's Apart from God, I can do nothing

...But I think the main way we could bless them was to spend time with them and love them. Personally I left with a burden for these ones who seem 'useless' in the eyes of the world, but are so special to God. I am learning lessons from God in many aspects of life. He is growing and molding me as a person and I am learning to accept and love myself for who He has created me to be. There were many times I struggled with feeling inadequate and failing to meet up to people's expectations. But God never fails to remind me... - Kerin's Faith Journey

I first heard God calling me to make disciples in campus last year during SMU Campus Crusade's freshmen orientation camp, "Knowing Him". The camp was special as God had brought over 30 freshmen, the largest batch we had ever seen! It was amazing to witness God adding His people to this movement, which had started 3 years ago with only 6 girls and 1 guy (guess who? Me!)- Zhou Siming's Knowing Christ and Making Him Known

The Mongolians not only opened their door to welcome the Word of God. They also opened their hearts to us. They received us with warm friendship, food and gifts that were beyond their means. We might have taught them the New Testament, but they showed us how to live it. - Jeremy & Jane's open door for the Word

Horse-riding on our day off (I screamed silently throughout the ride up and down the valley), and watching snow fail silently on our final day. Here's a song that encouraged our hearts during a time when we felt stuck and were discouraged. One of our mentors wrote us a note, listing this song in her encouragement card & told us that she sensed that God wanted to speak to us through this words. Then, a worship team sang this song again during our weekly corporate meeting.... - Johnson & Yvonne Chee's Trust His Heart | blog

... there was a heart-felt gush of emotions as we sifted through the comment slips which these students had to fill in after the session. The innocence and simplicity in their answers touched our hearts - grammatical errors didnt matter. Some comments written were "I have accepted God into my life today and became His friend" and "I have accepted God by how He saved us from sin now in life everytime now we sin we can pray to God. - Patrick Ng's 7Days in San Francisco

For the past month, there were moments of tears and joys. Feelings of inadequacies often filled my heart at the thought of taking up this new role. There were moments when my family would disagree and fail to understand why I would want to give my whole life to serve God in such a manner. There were many other trying instances as well but whenever I remember this verse, my heart is filled with hope... - Chin Wanting's faith journey

In this church, I have witnessed the baptism of 2 guys whom I had opportunity to disciple. But, it is different to see your own child's baptism. With so much of God's grace being poured out unto us, at all times, having all that we need, we began to abound and bear much fruits. I wonder what went through His thoughts and heart when "Jesus wept." (John 11:35) Was it the pain He felt for us as humans, or over the death of a dear friend? Theological explanations aside, I would like to think that in that moment, it was the latter. It helps me to know that He understood the grief of such loss and temporal separation, and His tears spoke more than mere words can attempt. - Clydia Mak's Life's Journey

I've said this many times before but I'll say it again. I am really thankful for the bond of friendships and give thanks for the chance to get to know new friends; and to catch-up with people I've known for a long time. I remember how difficult it was for me while waiting for God to speak, because I felt like God was not answering me the way I had expected Him to. I was asking, "God where are you leading me next, to stay or to leave?" but God would reply, "...abide in me and I will abide in you...trust in me, trust also in my Father..." The past 2 months, staff and christian students have been working hard on following-up on those "baby christians" who trusted Christ over the Christmas season.
